MY FAMILY'S HISTORY IN COOLUM

Hi, please allow me introduce myself.

My name is Peter and I am the owner of Mount Coolum Plumbing.

While Mount Coolum Plumbing is only a new business, started in 2023, I had been operating my plumbing business in Brisbane for over 12 years.

Even though I was born and lived my whole life in Brisbane up until late 2022, my family has a long history in Coolum dating back to the 1930s.

My father's family home was on the block of land where the Club Coolum Resort currently sits, giving him only a short run down to the Coolum Surf Club where he was a Cadet at age 14 and eventually going on to be Captain of the Surf Club and the Surf Boat sweep. He still remains a Life Member of the club.

My grandfather was both a banana and sugar cane farmer in the local area and my grandma was the Principle and sole teacher of Coolum Primary School in the early 1940's, back when it was a single building situated on South Coolum Road.

After moving to Brisbane when he was 16 years old to start working, dad still spent every weekend and holidays back in Coolum actively involved with patrols at the Surf Club.

This led to my mother also spending a lot of time up here, eventually introducing her parents to the area.

My grandparents on my mother's side loved Coolum so much, that in 1979 (the year I was born) they built a small block of units above First Bay which was where my nanna went on to live until she was 94 years old. This meant I was lucky enough to spend many weekends and most holidays up here surfing and fishing throughout my life, where I developed a deep connection and love of the area

So, after always dreaming of living in the Coolum area, my family and I finally made the decision to sell our house in Brisbane and move here. We now live in our new home in beautiful Mount Coolum and our kids play on the same school grounds their Grandad did 70 years ago.
